How to Remove GST from a Price

When a price already includes GST, divide it by (1 + rate ÷ 100) to find the original taxable value, then subtract that from the total to see the GST portion.

Formula: Original Amount = Total × 100 ÷ (100 + Rate)  ·  GST Amount = Total − Original Amount

Worked Example

A shopkeeper receives ₹11,800 for an item that included 18% GST.

Frequently Asked Questions

Because the GST rate applies to the original amount, not the total. Subtracting 18% of the total would overstate the tax, so the calculator divides by (1 + rate ÷ 100) instead.
